Helping professionals are on the emotional frontlines every day. These professionals include therapists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and teachers. They respond to crises and show up for people every day.

As a result, they witness the most vulnerable and difficult moments of human life. Many of them experience vicarious trauma. Vicarious trauma is when you experience trauma symptoms from someone else experiencing trauma. We can experience others’ trauma by hearing about it or seeing it.

What about you?

  • Is work causing you to feel drained?
  • Do you think a lot about your patients or students outside of work hours?
  • Do you have a hard time sleeping?
  • Are you feeling lingering rage, sadness, or fear related to your client’s experience?
  • Do you find yourself feeling numb, pessimistic, or cynical?

Does any of the above sound familiar? You might be experiencing symptoms of vicarious trauma. EMDR is a therapy approach to helping with PTSD and trauma.

More About Me

I am Canadian born and raised. After falling in love and getting married, I moved to Cleveland, Ohio. I received my Master’s in Social Work at the University of Toronto. I enjoy helping others care for their mental health. This is an essential part of their entire wellness.

In my journey of personal growth, I learned two important things about wellness. These two things are reflecting and creating. I do my healthiest thinking and problem-solving when walking in nature. My soul feels recharged when I can create something- whether it’s a delicious batch of cookies or a piece of art. My Christian faith is a foundation in my life. If requested, I am open to exploring issues from a faith-based perspective with my clients. When I’m not working I am spending time with family and hanging out with my toddler. It keeps me busy (and laughing).
